If you are a student, try TravelCuts. They are non-profit and can get special deals for students. I am also on the west coast and my family lives in Alberta. I can get some pretty sweet deals through them. TravelCuts also works for non-students, but you can get extra discounts if you are in school.

Also, be wary of 'discount' places you see in the mall.... they don't tell you that those flights they advertise include 100's of dollars in taxes, airport fees, national security fees...blah blah blah....
